Virtual Build #3: $1000 Productivity Build

$1000 Ultimate Productivity Build

Whether you are an avid blogger, Youtuber, or photographer, a computer that is powerful and speedy is a necessity. This build featuring an i5-6500 will deliver just that: speed and power. The i5-6500 is known to be the best "bang for your buck". Even though it's not exactly budget friendly, it delivers amazing performance without having to step up to the i7 series. Also in the build is a Samsung M.2 SSD. A regular SATA based SSD is fast, but an M.2 SSD will deliver blazing fast speeds and tremendously help out with productivity. It will easily load large files, videos, pictures, and very quickly transfer them to other locations. The GTX 960 will be adequate for light gaming from time to time (because we all need that), and it can support up to 4 monitors, which is extremely helpful with multitasking. For a $1000, this build is a great value and it's something that will last many years, and also has plenty of room for upgrades in the future.

CPU

The i5-6500 is the ultimate productivity CPU. It can easily handle everyday tasks, and also heavier loads, like video editing. While it might not be as good as the i7-6700, it still boasts a clock speed of 3.2Ghz and sports four cores. This CPU is definitely the right choice for this build because it combines value and performance in one amazing package.

Motherboard

This motherboard is know and proven to be the Best value Z170 motherboard out there. You can easily google this motherboard and find that there are millions of reviews of this motherboard, and they're mostly positive. The main reason I chose this motherboard for this build is because it has a M.2 slot for the SSD. Other than that, it's ASUS, and it has great reliability and performance. It also has amazing features like USB 3.1 type C, UEFI BIOS, RAM overclock, and more. The ASUS Z-170-A motherboard has the best and performance.

Memory

                            G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory

With most RAM speeds averaging 2133Mhz, this RAM gives you the extra boost needed in video rendering and other tasks, like loading programs. G Skill is known for their reliability and is used in countless builds. The price tag is significantly lower than other brands, and 16GB is perfect for this build.

Storage

Samsung 950 PRO 256GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive

This SSD is the star of this build. Not only is it ULTRA FAST, but it's very reliable because it was manufactured by Samsung. You do pay a slight premium for that, but it's definitely worth it in the end. This M.2 SSD delivers significantly faster speeds than the traditional SSD, up to 2500MB/s read and up to 1500MB/s write. I recently reviewed a SATA based SSD, and I was pleasantly surprised by the fast speeds. ADATA 240GB SSD REVIEW This SSD, is based on a PCIe M.2 connection, so it is enormously faster than an SSD, which is crazy. Having this SSD in your build will hugely increase the speed and performance of your computer. Link to Samsung's website: Samsung 950 Pro 256GB M.2 SSD

The classic WD Caviar Blue 1TB storage for all your videos, files, programs, and etc. Although hard drives are slowly becoming obsolete, they are still valuable, mainly because of the amount of pure storage they provide, and also the low price point. This hard drive is great for storing all of the files that are not frequently used, as well as all of your multimedia files.
Video Card

Asus GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card
Many of you out there will argue that the GTX 1060 is the new budge graphics card king. Although that is 100% true, GTX 1060s are rarely available as of right now, and will cost over $200. This graphics card gives you the option of running 4 monitors at a budget, and also allows for light gaming. It's perfect for this productivity build.

Case

Corsair cases are cheap, look good, and has the necessary features. It features 2 USB 3.0 front headers, tool-free SSD, hard drive, optical drive installation, and more. This case is an older brother of the 100R that I reviewed here: Corsair 100R Case Review. To put it simply, it has all the necessary features and look clean. It also has lots of room for upgradability.

Power Supply

Building a PC with a clean interior is not easy. That's where the fully modular power supply comes in handy. You can choose the cables you need, and plug those in to the power supply. Simple. This power supply is also Gold certified, which means that it will save you a lot of electricity, which is a must have in a productivity build, which draws lots of power. 650 watts of power will provide ample room for upgrades in the future.

Optical Drive

                                         Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer
A good, reliable optical drive is simply necessary in a productivity build. This ASUS optical drive was meant to be reliable and will burn and read CDs with no problem. A no frills optical drive with a low price tag.
Conclusion

Will you buy this PC? It mainly depends on your needs. If you're an average Joe that only surfs the web and social media, this build is probably overkill. However, if you're getting into video editing and Photoshop, and other CPU intensive work, then I highly recommend this build. Also, another thing to mention is that this build is not specifically for gaming. It's mainly for productivity so it will not give you max settings and max fps in all games, even though it can easily play games at mid-high settings, depending on the requirements of the game. Let me know if you decide to build this PC and feel free to ask me any questions or leave comments below. Build On!

3 Great Ways To Speed Up Your Computer

It seems like your computer gets slower as the years pass by, the startup time ever increasing. You wonder what the problem is, after all, the hardware is the same... You search online for answers but end up slowing the computer down even more by installing adware and changing system settings... Frustrated, you continue to search frantically, ultimately ending up on this guide. You think "this is probably another how to install an adware guide.." You try the steps, and voila! Your computer is significantly faster and you end up with more storage on your computer. Read on to find out how this is possible...

There are many guides out there, some telling you to install various software that never really seems to work. Most of them are sponsored by the company that makes the software, providing you with a highly biased and useless guide. I will attempt to remedy this common issue on the web and provide you with real answers that are proven to work, not just sponsored ads.

1. CCleaner
This suggestion may seem ironic, mainly because I was talking about the amount of useless adware out there. But I can guarantee that this software will significantly clean up you PC, making it not only faster but freeing up tons of storage space, especially if you have an old computer. This software can be used to clean out all sorts of junk hiding in your computer. It can also uninstall programs with ease, making the whole process a lot smoother. I've been using CCleaner for many years and it has proved to be extremely effective and necessary in all PCs, especially old ones. I highly recommend this FREE* (yes, free) program to clean up your computer and make it faster.

*Pro version can be purchased but free version is more than enough for most people, also doesn't have ads.

You can Download it here
2. Malwarebytes
Another software that can speed up your PC is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware software. This software is definitely on my must have software list , along with CCleaner. This software gives you the ability to fully detect and eliminate ANY  viruses, or threats currently residing in your computer. This software actually saved my computer couple times by removing weird viruses and adware, and also blocking some malicious websites that were harmful to my computer. Malwarebytes can ultimately speed up the computer by removing any viruses or adware that is causing your computer to slow down. It has a free trial version that you can basically keep forever, but you can upgrade to a premium membership for more features and real time protection.

You can Download it here:
https://www.malwarebytes.com/mwb-download/

3. Buy an SSD

Buy and install an SSD. This task might sound daunting at first, but this has proven to be the most effective  way of speeding up your computer. Not only does the SSD give you faster read/write speeds, it also starts up WAY  faster and loads your programs in an instant. This method is the most foolproof way of speeding up your computer, even though it requires some extra cash. I would say using an SSD is definitely worth it, and the amount of time saved on the computer ultimately surmounts the cost. I have a review of the SSD I'm using currently here: ADATA 240GB SSD Review

Included below are the 3 SSDs that work for every type of consumer, whether you have a high-end system and want extreme speeds, or on a budget but still want the blazing fast speeds of an SSD.

Virtual Build #2 : $650 Ultimate Budget Gaming Machine

$650 Ultimate Budget Gaming Machine (feat. R9 390)

$650 is a great price point for many gamers. It gives plenty of horsepower for just the right price. Now, some of you might be wondering, "why not use the newest, best budget card from AMD, the RX480?" Well, let me explain. The main reason I chose the R9 390 over the RX 480 is because although the R9 390 is an older graphics card, it still has more raw horsepower than the RX 480. Also, with the highly inflated prices of RX480s right now, the R9 390 proves to be a significantly better deal. Check out the graphics cards in a real life gaming benchmark test here: RX480 vs R9 390 Benchmarks. Aside from the graphics card, this build is a fairly common build, with 8GB of RAM, 240GB SSD, and a MSI microATX motherboard. Also, the i3 processor paired with the R9 390 will provide more than enough horsepower to power through most modern titles. Like the last build, this build focuses on easy upgradability. The CPU, RAM, Graphics Card, and other parts can easily be swapped out in the future, and upgraded to better parts. Overall, this system is truly worth every cent and has many features that can't be rivaled.

Total $649.93

CPU

The i3-6100 is definitely the ultimate budget friendly, game ready CPU. Although this CPU won't be too beneficial in editing videos or anything extremely CPU intensive, it can and will game with ease. Its gaming capabilities are proven to be almost endless when paired with the right graphics card. It can easily handle all other tasks you throw at it, at a relatively low price point. This CPU is definitely worth a spot in this build.(If you're editing videos I recommend that you go with the i5-6600K instead.)

Motherboard

This motherboard is jam-packed with features, right out of the box. On the hardware side, it has USB 3.1 front headers, reinforced PCI slots, RAM boost, gaming LAN, and more. There are also a bundle of software included with this motherboard, including CPU-Z, MSI RAMDISK, and Click BIOS, which makes editing the BIOS a breeze. This motherboard was meant for gaming at a budget so it will be perfect for this gaming build.

Memory

This RAM was an easy choice mainly because it's cheap, and it's reliable. 8GB of RAM nowadays will easily play games and perform daily tasks. But it also gives you the option of upgrading to 16GB of RAM for even more performance. I used this RAM in my Skylake build, and it's still going strong. *Also used in $400 budget gaming build

Storage

I highly recommend this SSD. It's fast, reliable, and relatively cheap compared to the other SSDs. I also used this in my Skylake build and it speeds the whole computer up and reduces loading times, which equals higher productivity levels. You can also find my review on this SSD on my blog. *Also used in $400 budget gaming build

Video Card

As explained in the intro, this Graphics card is a pure beast when it comes to performance. It's also on the budget side, especially compared to some of Nvidia's newer cards. This graphics card is not really meant for playing all games at 4K max settings 60fps, but it will definitely run games 1080P max settings with ease. It single-handedly beats out the RX480 at in-game performance and also beats the GTX 970. The price to performance ratio is superb and the in-game performance is what makes this card a must have in this build.

Case

Many thoughts come to mind when you observe this case: Clean, Simple, Pure. The outside of this case is pure white, and also looks FRESH. The window also adds to the effect and will help show off the amazing parts inside. It features 2 USB 3.0 front headers, and features an easy to build interior. The case has no hard drive cages, allowing longer graphics cards to fit inside. This case is also on the cheaper side, so it's great for our build.

Power Supply

This power supply will provide more than enough power to juice up this system, and even allow for upgrades in the future. It has a bronze certification, which means it will be efficient and save you money while you game on!

Conclusion

Will you buy this PC? It mainly depends on your needs. If you're beginner just getting into gaming, this build will be more than enough to play any games. If you're an avid gamer, this build will also satisfy most of your needs. Let me know if you decide to build this PC and feel free to ask me any questions or leave comments below. Build On!

3 Simple Ways To Troubleshoot Your Newly Built Computer

This is the moment you've been waiting for, the moment of truth. You close the side panel to your newly built computer, then proceed to press the power button. Your heart rate is rapidly increasing, your hands become sweaty. You wait for a moment, then the excitement turns into despair when the computer shows no signs of life. You continue to press the power button again, hoping that the computer turns on. Yet, nothing happens. You let out a sigh, realizing that you're going to have to TROUBLESHOOT the computer. "Now, where do I start?" you wonder: Google. So you search up something along the lines of: computer won't turn on, or diy computer not turning on. Then you search through the sea of meaningless articles, talking about buying a power supply tester or just new parts altogether. Although that might be necessary, here are three simple steps for you to try first, so that you don't have to spend a dime.

1. Make sure the electricity is flowing
Your computer is a system, and is designed to work as a single unit. This means that even one wire or one connector out of place, or plugged in the wrong way, will result in a dead computer. This was actually my problem when I first built my computer. I plugged the CPU power in the wrong way, which was a rookie mistake. So make sure to check all of the wires from the power supply and make sure they're plugged in to the right places, and also the right way. The CPU power wire has a little notch(shown below) and it needs to be on the same side as the notch on the input(shown below). Also, the motherboard power cable and input is the same type of case with a notch on the side.

Notch is on the left, the long white notch
The notch is on the right in this wire

Motherboard Power Cable (Notch is on the right)
2. Make sure the power supply is turned on
It might seem silly, but this is a very common mistake people make when building their first computer. The power supply has two options: I which is turned on and O which is turned off. Just check and make sure the switch is turned to I.

I: On     O: Off
3. Check the outlet and power supply cable
Although it's rare, outlets and power supply cables can fail, and this can cause a dead computer. So make sure to check the outlet by plugging in other electric appliances. The power supply cable can be checked by plugging it in to another computer, and if you don't own another one, I don't know what to tell you.

Power supply cables can fail
Conclusion
Most people find their mistake by steps one, two, or even three. But if you made it this far and your computer still doesn't turn on, then it's necessary to either return the items for a replacement, or buy power supply checkers such as this one: Insten 20 / 24-pin Power Supply Tester for ATX / SATA / HDD, Black. Hopefully you found this guide helpful, and if you did please share with others who might need this guide. Build On!

Virtual Build #1: $400 Console Killer

Intro

This new series is going to cover MANY types of builds. From the lowest budget build to the highest, most extreme builds. I'm not actually going to be building the PCs, just choosing the parts to match a specific budget and also researching to find out which parts work the best. This series is going to be updated weekly, so stay tuned for that. Now onto the actual build...

$400 Console Killer
This nifty little computer will easily handle most modern games with ease. Now, with most of the consoles coming in at around $300, one could easily ask, how could this build POSSIBLY replace a console when it's MORE EXPENSIVE??? Well, the fact of the matter is that even though consoles have been around for awhile, they could never truly replace PC gaming. Consoles are definitely getting better and better, but they will never reach the sheer horsepower in gaming PCs. Also, custom built computers are FULLY customizable and can be tailored to your requirements and your budget. This is why many people find custom built computers extremely appealing, even compared to consoles. Even though this PC is $100 more expensive than most consoles, it will give you many options to upgrade in the future without spending another $300 on a new console. Also, it will be able to easily play games that are on the console platform right out of the box. Another thing to keep in mind, is that this build isn't just for gaming. It can swiftly perform daily tasks, such as playing music, writing documents, making powerpoints, making spreadsheet, and so much more. Armed with these facts, we can rest assured that this build is truly a console killer.

Parts List

Power Supply EVGA 430W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply $32.88 @ OutletPC

Total $414.72

CPU
As you can probably tell from the parts list, most of these parts were used in my Skylake build. In fact, the only thing that has changed is the graphics card. This is why I can easily attest to the fact that the CPU is very capable and fitting in this build. With the price tag of only $59.99, it has a very good price to performance ratio. The only thing that was holding me back on games was the integrated graphics. This issue is remedied by the addition of a graphics card, the GTX 750Ti.

Motherboard
This motherboard is the budget builder's dream. Not only does it feature EZ BIOS, fan controls, graphics card slot, 2x PCIe slots, but it also has many extra features such as a LED illuminated audio shield. Feel free to check out my review on this amazing motherboard.

Storage
I highly recommend this SSD. It's fast, reliable, and relatively cheap compared to the other SSDs. I also used this in my Skylake build and it speeds the whole computer up and reduces loading times, which equals higher productivity levels. You can also find my review on this SSD on my blog.

Video Card
"Gtx 750 ti is still one of the best graphics cards of all time when it comes to gaming on a budget. It can play all the latest games on high settings at 1080p easily and can play games like battlefield 4 on ultra with 40+ fps." - http://www.xtremegaminerd.com/best-budget-entry-level-graphics-cards/

Case
Even though I could've went with a cheaper case, I wanted to leave the option of upgrading in the future very open. This case will definitely support upgrades as the case has an ample amount of storage, USB 3.0 front, minimalistic design, and tool less hard drive cages. It will serve you well into the future. I also have the review on this case on my blog if you want to check that out.

Power Supply
Two main reasons: Simple, Reliable. EVGA has proved to make very reliable power supplies. I used this one in my Skylake build and it hasn't failed me so far and will keep going. There are many reviews online that state this power supply has the best budget power supply. The 430 watts also provide room for upgrades in the future. Whether it be a better graphics card, CPU, or both, this power supply probably can handle it with ease.

UPDATE:
Since the prices have skyrocketed for no reason, I put together a similar build with different seller and brought the price back down to $400. Check out the parts list here: Parts List

Corsair 100R Case Review

Is this the BEST BUDGET case???

Intro:

The name is Corsair. Corsair is extremely popular among budget PC builders and gaming enthusiasts alike. So why is this company so popular? And, is this the BEST BUDGET case? These questions will be answered in my review of the Corsair 100R case.

Review:

Corsair has a well established reputation throughout the community of DIY PC builders. The main reason, is simply because the company Corsair has been producing quality parts for more than 20 years. This led to their rise in popularity and reputation. Corsair makes all kinds of computer parts, such as RAM, CPU coolers, PC cases, SSDs, and more. (About Corsair) Their products are well known to be budget friendly and of high quality.

Now, onto the actual review of the case. There are two words to describe this case: SIMPLE and EFFECTIVE. If you even took a glimpse at this case before, you will automatically realize WHY this case is so SIMPLE. It has an all blacked out color scheme with an extremely simple, rectangular design. The inside is also painted all black, which matches with the theme of the case. (I hate cases that are silver on the inside. It makes the whole computer look cheap.) The tool less hard drive trays and optical drive bays only add to the simplicity. Simplicity is beautiful, and this case definitely shows it. The window on the side is also simple, and adds to the overall theme. Putting together the parts in this case was a breeze, even for a beginner. This is why the case is so EFFECTIVE. It has all the right features in the right places, and allows ample space for the computer parts. The pre-mounted fan is a welcome bonus, and it does the job of keeping the PC nice and cool. Included in the box is the array of screws and zip ties that can be utilized for installation of parts, and also cable management. (I tried, but failed) Lastly, the power switch glows white and feels nice to press, the USB front headers work well as advertised, and the case features a removable dust filter on the bottom for easy cleaning. Overall, this case is extremely solid for the price, and I would recommend this case to anyone building a PC, even a high end one.

Is this case the Best Budget case???

Yes is the simple answer. At a price of ~$50 (at the time of writing) it definitely fits into the budget category. It has all of the features that a quality case should have (Removable dust filters, 2x USB 3.0 headers, 1x Corsair Fan, Tool less hard drive bays and optical drive bays, nice acrylic window). I really like the design because it's SIMPLE and EFFECTIVE. Yes. I declare this case the BEST BUDGET case.

ADATA 240GB SSD REVIEW

Nice Packaging, Great SSD. 2.5" Form Factor
The Review:
The ADATA SSD is a great choice when it comes to budget friendly SSDs. Even though the cost of SSDs are constantly plummeting, the prices are still generally more expensive than traditional hard drives. This can lead to people purchasing hard drives just because they're cheaper. Although hard drives are not exactly bad, SSDs can easily replace traditional hard drives and make your system run much more faster. When I built my Skylake budget PC, I specifically wanted to include a SSD drive because I wanted to observe the differences between a traditional hard drive that I was used to and a SSD. Now that I've been using the system for almost 2 weeks, I can proudly say that this system runs faster than any of the computers I've had so far. I realized that the CPU, GPU, and even the RAM can't really help but admire at the impressive speeds the SSD can churn out. Adding the SSD was a very good investment and well worth it. The fast boot times and app loading times of the Skylake PC made me use it as a daily driver. Even though I have another DIY PC with a better CPU, GPU, and RAM, I still prefer to use the Skylake PC with an SSD. If you haven't tried out a SSD yet, or you're looking to build a great, speedy budget PC, then I highly recommend you purchase this SSD.

PROS
